Today we are chatting with Karen McIntosh, the owner/operator of “Glamorous”, an all-service beauty boutique serving clients in Durham Region at her location in Ajax, or yours! She also works out of Oshawa’s Tranquil Garden. Karen is passionate about making women everywhere feel like the princess they are, using her exclusive, private brand of products.
1. Good morning! Tell us what got you started in your business?
When my daughter was born I got a new insight into what my time is worth. I had been working in spas for more than 10 years, and I saw that there was a need for flexibility for my clients, as well as for my family. I’ve always had passion for enhancing natural beauty; as a little girl I was already making over my dolls! So this was a perfect fit for me.
2. That’s awesome that you are living your calling! What inspired you to develop your own makeup line?
It was the realization of a dream to create a line of cosmetics that help and benefit all women. I found that I wanted a more natural product that would benefit my skin instead of just sitting on it. I found that whatever brand I tried, my skin was irritated and I’d break out. I designed my makeup line to work for your skin, giving you many benefits including beauty. The foundation has natural SPF in it, the lip glosses have Shea butter in them and the eyeshadows are very pigmented so you need less, which makes them last longer.
3. Wow – talk about passion! I love that. So what are some of your favourite things you’ve been able to share with your clients?
I am one of 5 spas in Ontario to use an amazing volcanic wrap, which clients can purchase and use at home, too. It helps with eczema, cellulite, firming and tightening just to name a few of the benefits. I have brought Young living essential oils into my business and home which are amazing because you can use them on your skin or ingest them to promote optimum health. I have so much knowledge to share about making the body and skin healthier and naturally beautiful, and I love to share everything that I know with my clients.
4. They say that sharing is caring – obviously you care! Tell us what motivates you and gives you drive in your business?
I want to help people by giving them some healing and some peace; at least for a few minutes. Women are more highly stressed than our moms were back-in-the day, so it’s very important to take care of ourselves first. That is what motivates me. I am a single mom myself as well as the caretaker of my mom who has dementia, I need to take care of myself first. I have learned this because you can get caregivers burnout and then you are not good to anyone. I love to pamper women and make them feel amazing inside and out.
5. When people come to you to consider partnering with you, what is the one thing you want them to know about you and your work?
I am creative and passionate about what I do. I put all my love into each individual client to give them what they need. Whether it be pampering, some tricks and tips or just need someone to talk to. I love what I do!
